The MGM Grand was rebuilt at a cost of $50 million, and eventually reopened on July 29, 1981, with new fire safety features in place. The 26-story hotel contained 2,100 rooms, and was among the world's largest hotels. It originally opened as the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino on December 4, 1973.
